The USAF developed a requirement for a new air superiority fighter to replace the F-15 Eagle.Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF). The aircraft is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% compositematerial, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All these components contribute to theF-22 being a light weight, extremely maneuverable, extremely fast aircraft that uses stealthtechnology. The F-22 is also capable of ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence.

The 94th FS, 1st FW have called Langley AFB, Virginia home since June 1975. The 94th wascreated at Kelly Field, Texas in August 1917 as the 94th Aero Squadron. In April 1918 thesquadron became known as the Ring In The Hat Squadron and was home to several Aces suchas 1st Lt. Eddie Rickenbacker Americas Ace Of Aces. In 2005 the 94th FS began theirtransition to the F-22 Raptor with 10-4194 c/n 645-4194 being the last F-22 delivered to the94th FS.
