Hobby Master HA5203 1:72 Grumman F-14A Jolly Rogers
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a twin-engine, variable sweep wings capable of supersonic flight,target acquisition, ECM and weapons usage. The Tomcat was operated by the United StatesNavy and the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force only. The name Tomcat is said to come from thecall-sign used by Vice Admiral Thomas Connolly which conformed to the USN tradition of givingGrumman aircraft feline names.
The original Jolly Rogers was VF-17, established in 1943. In 1946 they were re-designatedVF-5B and then VF-61. In 1959 they were disestablished freeing up the name Jolly Rogers.The original VF-84 was formed in 1944 as the Wolf Gang and deactivated in May 1945. Duringthe Korean War VF-921 became VF-84 and then became VA-86 in 1955. A new VF-84 wascreated called the Vagabonds. With the dissolution of VF-61, VF-84 became Jolly Rogers. In1995 the 84th was deactivated and VF-103 Sluggers took the name and skull and cross bonesemblem in an effort to save the Jolly Rogers.
