N522MC, constructed as a 747-200B, was originally delivered to Thai Airways in December 1979. After many years with Thai, N522MC was converted to a 747-200SF (Special Freighter) and was delivered to Atlas Air, Inc. in April 1996. N522MC and their fleet of 747s have delivered millions of pounds of cargo all over the world, elevating the Atlas Mission To be our Customers First Choice and Most Valued Partner. In March 2012, N522MC was withdrawn from use and stored at MHV. MotoArt acquired this 747 in 2021 and preserved its original fuselage skin to create PlaneTags.

Atlas Air began operations in 1992 when the late founder, Michael Chowdry, envisioned leasing freighter aircraft to other airlines on an ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance) contract basis.
